Samson Unuanel has denied media reports stating that he re-applied for
the vacant Kwara United job he held in the 2013/14 season.
The Afonja Warriors recently parted ways with the coach on mutual
grounds, but the Edo Born tactician has stated he has expressed no
interest as being reported in the local media.
“This is totally untrue because in this kind of situation I don’t think
it is proper to re-apply for any job with Kwara United,” the former
Ocean Boys coach told SL10.
On Tuesday 27th January, Tunde Sanni, Tunde Abdulrahman, Abdullahi
Biffo, Ali Zubaru, Jimoh Balogun and Kareem Elemosho were all spotted at
the Kwara State sports ministry trying to convince the top heirachy of
the club on their eligibility for the vacant job.
It was reported that Unuanel was not allowed to take part in the interview - a report the coach has come out to rubbish.
“There are some people who are ready to destroy the name I have built
for years. I'm presently on holidays at my home town in Benin City,” the
coach explained.
“It is better for people to verify situations before reporting. I
didn’t re-apply. I have not spoken to anybody from Kwara United.”
Coach Unuanel led Kwara United back to the Nigeria Professional
Football League at the end of the 2013/14 Nigeria National League
campaign.

The captain of Kwara United FC, Sheriff Jimoh, has urged governors in the country to emulate Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed’s support for sports development.
Jimoh in an interview with newsmen at the team’s training ground on Wednesday said the players are delighted about the governor’s support, which he maintained informed their promotion to the Premier league.
“Other state governors need to emulate our governor in order to improve the quality of our league since government is still the sole sponsor of our football,” he began.
“I do support private initiative in the sports sector in our country, but since it is government that is still doing it, they need to do it right.
“Gov. Ahmed’s huge support to the team made us come stronger during the season and that was why we fought hard to secure our promotion.
“The management have been wonderful too because if the government is spending and the right people are not there to manage the investment you won’t get results.”
Jimoh described the team’s General Manager Haruna Maigidansanma as a father who will always encourage the players to do more on the pitch.
He also commended other management too especially the secretary which he described as an experienced manager of the game.
However, the Kwara United skipper denied a story credited to him recently that the players are demanding for some amount of monies, saying he has never granted any journalist such audience for the story.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has affirmed the decision of
the Nigeria National League (NNL) which awarded the three points and
three goals to Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin.
The award was in relation to a rescheduled 2013/2014 NNL Group A week
30 match involving the club and hosts Ranchers Bees FC at the Kaduna
Township Stadium.
The affirmation was contained in a letter addressed to both clubs'
secretaries by the Secretary of NFF's Organising and Disciplinary
Committee (O&D), Tunde Aderibigbe.
The NNL secretariat had earlier awarded the match to the Ilorin-based
club after the match ended abruptly with six minutes to go in Abuja on
Dec. 19.
Before then, the original match in Kaduna was terminated at 2-2 after
62 minutes, leading to the NNL awarding the match to Kwara United.
But, NFF's Appeals Committee had ruled that the remaining 28 minutes of the match be played instead.
The NFF, in its latest ruling, said it was established from match
officials' reports, video and oral evidence that the match ended
abruptly.
It said this was due to attack/assault on the match officials by some identified Ranchers Bees players and officials.
The association also said it established from the Match
Commissioner's oral evidence and written report that Tele Ibrahim, the
club's assistant coach, encroached and invaded the field of play.
He was also said to have physically assaulted and inflicted bodily
injuries on the match officials in contravention of article 4.3(1).
The NFF also upheld the decision of NNL banning three Ranchers Bees
players and two officials for one year, for attacking the match
officials.
It also fined the Kaduna-based club N1.2 million.
The NFF also asked the management of Ranchers Bees FC to repair a
Toyota Camry car belonging to Muhammed Babayo of the Nigeria Police.
It said the match officials have the liberty to go further to prosecute the identified attackers.
Reacting to the development in Ilorin on Monday, the General Manager
of Kwara United FC, Haruna Maigidasanma, rather praised the club's
supporters and fans for their support.
Maigidasanma said the club would soon announce the team's new
technical crew as soon as the state government had endorsed the
management's plan for the new season.
With the development, Kwara United now joined Wikki Tourists FC of
Bauchi in being promoted to the Premier League of the 2014/2015 season.
It had ended the race with 52 points in Group A of the NNL behind Wikki Tourists which topped the table with 55 points.

Nigeria Professional Football League outfit Kwara United is likely to name its new head coach before the end of the week.
The team is reportedly set to unveil a new tactician after agreeing
terms with a gaffer, whom the sources claim will move the team forward
in the elite league.
Sources in Ilorin have it on authoritative terms that Tunde Sanni
and Abdullahi Biffo are the leading candidates for the top job, with
former ABS FC coach Kabiru Dogo also linked with a move to the Afonja
Warriors.
Isiaka Gambari and I. O. Bako have been holding the fort since Samson
Unuanel was relieved of his duties from the club earlier in the year.
Samson Unuanel and his assistants, Ali Zubair (Chief Coach), Jimoh
Balogun (Assistant Coach), Rasheed Badmus (Trainer) and Tunji Abubakar
(Goalkeeper Trainer) were asked to go following the expiration of their
one year contract.
A top club official came out saying that the management had to cast its net far and wide to find Unuanel's replacement.
He added a new coach has to be secured before the end of the week.
