NFF Affirms Kwara United's Promotion

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has affirmed the decision of the Nigeria National League (NNL) which awarded the three points and three goals to Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin.

The award was in relation to a rescheduled 2013/2014 NNL Group A week 30 match involving the club and hosts Ranchers Bees FC at the Kaduna Township Stadium.

The affirmation was contained in a letter addressed to both clubs' secretaries by the Secretary of NFF's Organising and Disciplinary Committee (O&D), Tunde Aderibigbe.

The NNL secretariat had earlier awarded the match to the Ilorin-based club after the match ended abruptly with six minutes to go in Abuja on Dec. 19.

Before then, the original match in Kaduna was terminated at 2-2 after 62 minutes, leading to the NNL awarding the match to Kwara United.

But, NFF's Appeals Committee had ruled that the remaining 28 minutes of the match be played instead.

The NFF, in its latest ruling, said it was established from match officials' reports, video and oral evidence that the match ended abruptly.

It said this was due to attack/assault on the match officials by some identified Ranchers Bees players and officials.

The association also said it established from the Match Commissioner's oral evidence and written report that Tele Ibrahim, the club's assistant coach, encroached and invaded the field of play.

He was also said to have physically assaulted and inflicted bodily injuries on the match officials in contravention of article 4.3(1).

The NFF also upheld the decision of NNL banning three Ranchers Bees players and two officials for one year, for attacking the match officials.

It also fined the Kaduna-based club N1.2 million.
The NFF also asked the management of Ranchers Bees FC to repair a Toyota Camry car belonging to Muhammed Babayo of the Nigeria Police.

It said the match officials have the liberty to go further to prosecute the identified attackers.
Reacting to the development in Ilorin on Monday, the General Manager of Kwara United FC, Haruna Maigidasanma, rather praised the club's supporters and fans for their support.

Maigidasanma said the club would soon announce the team's new technical crew as soon as the state government had endorsed the management's plan for the new season.

With the development, Kwara United now joined Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi in being promoted to the Premier League of the 2014/2015 season.

It had ended the race with 52 points in Group A of the NNL behind Wikki Tourists which topped the table with 55 points.
