Good day fellow Harmonians,First of, I'm really sorry this match report is coming late. It's due to some unforeseen circumstances. Though we had live updates on the match during the game on our twitter @HarmonyWarriors. Go follow us now if you haven't already.
Lobi Stars came into town and just as they did 2 years ago, they left with a point in their bag. More painful is their newly acquired striker, Abdulrahman Bashir, and coach, Justin Tenger, continuing with a record of not losing on our pitch.
But, most painful, is how poorly the team performed. Seriously, we didn't play like we needed those 3 points. The first half of the match was very close to boring, besides the fact that we got our goal in that 45'.
Segun Alebiosu headed in the opener brilliantly in the 37th, returning the ball to the left side of the post where the inch perfect cross came from. Halilu Obadaki was the crosser, a beauty that crowned a good performance and earned him a place in most website's NPFL Team of the Week.
That was Alebiosu's 4th goal of the league season and we were all happy that Segun is back to scoring ways.
His supporting striker for the day, Sambo Bobga, didn't come to party at all. He had wrong touches on the ball most of the time leaving Harmonians with the question "How on earth did he get to play 90 minutes?". Well, I can't answer that and we all know where the horse's mouth is at.
Evans Iyoro made a comeback after the punishment for "breaking camp rules". He also didn't play like the Iyoro we are used to. Though he created some chances and tried the Lobi keeper with some shots. Especially the one he took in the 85th that was denied by the cross bar off a deflection. That would have been the winner.
Kwara United's best player on the pitch was Victor Dennis. The right back ran the right flank through the match making good crosses and defending real well.
The heart breaker came in the 77th after Lobi Stars have really tried pressurizing the Harmony Boys' defense. Obioma Arinze scored off a corner kick that dropped in the middle of the box. Shagari was indecisive at that moment, he didn't know whether to rush out to the player or stay in goal and try catch the ball. It cost us.
After the equaliser, we tried coming back in front but it just wouldn't happen.
Speaking with the coaches after the game, Tenger was so in the moment and kept bragging on how he keeps Kwara United on their toes everytime and reiterating that he has never lost on our pitch (not that he's wrong, but....).
Coach Abdulrahman commented that the draw is a big blow on our aspiration this season.
But here's something that wasn't said by anybody on the day, our players rotation policy is killing the team. We have not had a same squad for 3 weeks in years (I stand to be corrected).
I think it's time for the coach to start sticking with a winning team(or even working team). Rotating these players every other week kills their working chemistry. I know "other factors" are involved causing the rotation but PLEASE!
Our next game is against Bayelsa United at Oghara. But before then we'll be back for some injury news, and this week we'll introduce a new column called PLAYER PROFILE. The first player we'll be talking about is the midfield maestro, Dare Ojo.
