Obadaki Not Disappointed With Loss

Halilu Obadaki, Captain of the Kwara United team that lost to Shooting Star SC of Ibadan in the 2nd match of match day 1 of the Nigeria National League Super Four Competition in Ilorin takes a look at the positives in the 2-1 loss to the Ibadan rivals.

Obadaki got the Harmony Warriors their equaliser in the 2nd half of the game on the night. He expressed to HWB that he was not disappointed with the loss to Shooting Stars given the preparedness of team for the Super 4 tourney.

"It's a nice game. I never expected us to play up to this level because Shooting Stars are actually ahead of us (in terms of pre-season matches) for the past two monthes.

"They've played in two pre-season tournaments (before the NNL Super 4) of which we have not played in any. And all the coaches we have now just came on board, it was not up to 2 weeks they all got the new job. So I say kudos to the coaches that they got us to play as good as we did.

"We lost based on lack of luck. We tried a lot going forward but we were not lucky enough to get the required number of goals needed to execute a victory," the left back said.

When asked on his assessment of the team set up of new players and the old ones still in the team towards the new NPFL season, Obadaki talked about the need for the coaches to help the team play in unity as one with the loads of talents possessed by each player.

"We are just building a new team from scratch for the new season. Given our level of improvement I think we will go very far in the coming season but there are still lots of rooms for improvement.

"We have lots of talented players in our team, both the retained ones and the new comers. All we need is synchronization to be able to read each others games so we can play well together," Obadaki said.

Kwara United are set to face an away match at Dolphins of Port Harcourt in their first match of the new NPFL season slated to kick off on March 7. But they first have a battle for the third place of the NNL Super 4 with Wikki Tourist of Bauchi on Wednesday..

Yomi Ademetan's Take On The Kwara United Team vs 3SC

Yomi Ademetan's take on the Kwara United team on parade against Shooting Stars on Monday;

•The team lacks a quality goal poacher.

•Marking from the zone was an issue for them. You don't give a goal poacher like Meshack Chukwubuikem a yard in the danger zone. Probably they missed the presence of Isiaka Oladuntoye.

•They need a midfield enforcer too.

•I saw the future Ronaldo in Gata Jnr. The boy is blessed with skills despite his tender age.

•Despite netting a bullet, left back Halilu Obadeki was found wanting when tracking back. He needs to work on his recovery rate.

3SC 2-1 Kwara United #NNLSuper4 - Match Report

Oladele Eweje ensured that Shooting Stars defeated Kwara United 2-1 in the second semi final of the Nigeria National League Super Four Challenge.

Shootings Stars edged Kwara United and they advanced to the final thanks to Eweje's winner in a 2-1 win at the Kwara State Stadium.

Segun Alebiosu failed to beat Kola Ige on one-on-one situation after being set up by Adeshina Gata in the 8th minute.

Overlapping right back Victor Denise had his long range shot well gathered by the busy Ige.

Gata tormented Shooting Stars defence with his direct approach and pace. He was applauded by the fans anytime he touched the ball.

Alebiosu was also menacing upfront for the Kwara United. He ran at the channels when needed.

The lively Gata should have handed Kwara United the lead in the 21st minute. The starlet decided to pass rather than shoot when he was set up in the danger zone.

Shooting Stars started to create chances of their own and pushed forward in search of the first goal.

Sylvanus Ebiaku saw his bullet go off target with goalkeeper Ismaila Shagari in no man's land.

The former Sokoto United custodian almost gifted Shooting Stars the lead. His pass was intercepted by 3SC, somehow the Oluyole Warriors couldn't capitalise.

Meshack Chukwubuikem's finish let him down as he failed to convert a cross from Okiki Afolabi on the half hour mark.

Nyima Nwagua the lanky striker of Shooting Stars probed the shaky defence line of Kwara United. His effort was saved by Shagari in the 38th minute.

Two minutes to the end of the first half, Gata dribbled his way past the ball watching Shooting Stars defenders. He was stopped by Ige.

The first half ended goalless.

Kwara United continued to be wasteful with chances they ought to have converted.

And they were punished for their complacency on the hour mark.

The lurking Meshack drew the curtain raiser for the Oluyole Warriors as he benefitted from a right wing cross to flick past Shagari.

Seven minutes later captain Halilu Obadaki ensured that Kwara United were back in the back.

His low bullet from outside the area beat everyone including Ige and the Harmony Warriors set the stage for a thrilling end to the game.

There was a controversial moment in the game when Meshack put the ball at the back of the afterwards. The referee ruled his effort for offside.

Shooting Stars didn't allow that to deter them. They were in front through Eweje's header after a goal mouth scramble.

Efforts by Kwara United to stage a come back proved abortive.

Shooting Stars Starters: Kola Ige 35, Sylvanus Ebiaku 6, Yinka Adedeji 3, James Moses 22, Moris 5, Izu Joseph 31, Godwin Effiong 15, Meshack Chukwubuikem 12, Nyima Nwagua 11, Eweje Oladele 20, Okiki Afolabi 10

Reserves: Afesoh Attah 21, Seun Akinyemi 13, Babawo 7, Onuoha Emmanuel 14, Fuad Ekelojuoti 16, Alaba Osawe 2, Raphael Ademola 19

Vanzekin Set To Dump Warri Wolves For Kwara United

Former Dream Team  IV goalkeeper, Ambrose Vanzekin is set to dump Warri Wolves and join Kwara United, ahead of the new Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Vanzekin, who was on loan to Bayelsa United last season, said he is tired of the loan spells and will want to experience a permanent move in a club where he will be playing more regularly.

“Bayelsa United is a very good club and I enjoy playing there on loan. But this coming season, I don’t think I will be playing for them because I want to go to a different club where I will be able to play regularly. I’m hoping to join Kwara United,” the former Nigerian U-23 goalkeeper revealed.

Vanzekin joined Warri Wolves from Akwa United F.C. in July 2009 and the 28-year-old said he will not be returning to his parent club.

“I don’t want to go back to Warri Wolves because I’ve spent much time there and they are very nice to me.

"They want me to come back but I don’t want to go back because I’m not really happy being sent on loan. So, I need to go to a place where I’ll have more playing time to show my fans that I still exist in this country.

"That is why I want to make this bold move to where I will have the opportunity to play good games,” the 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medallist noted.

The 20-year-old said though he has not signed any pre-contract with Kwara United, he hopes to get the deal done in the next one week.

“We’ve been talking and I have good rapport with them and by God’s grace that is where I will play next. Though I don’t have any pre contract with them for now, but in the next one week, I believe by God’s grace we will get the deal sorted out,” he said.

Norwegian clubside, Viking FK have announced the signing of Kwara United winger Samuel Adegbenro Toluwashe and Suleiman Abubakar (currently with Nigeria U20) of El-kanemi Warriors on a 4year deal on their official website, viking-fk.no.

Samuel Adegbenro is currently with the U-23 national team and he has bagged 2 goals in 4 matches played for the Siasia inspired team.

The 19-year-old winger who was the creative force of Kwara United at last season's Nigerian National League campaign, aiding in the promotion of the club into the elite league, has been a trialist at the Norwegian club.

The dribbling wizard, tagged as the Nigerian Neymar, was arguably the best player in Kwara United last season and one of the best in the NNL 2013/2014 season.

We at HarmonyWarriorsBlog wish Adegbenro the best at his present club and hope he replicates and even performs better than he had at our darling club.
